Regex Tester

Type a pattern and see what it matches in your text as you go: each match highlighted, with its position and every capture group. Then try a replacement or split the text on it.

How do I use the Regex tester?

  1. Paste the text to search.
  2. Type the pattern and flags (g for every match, i to ignore case, m for line by line).
  3. Read the matches and groups, or switch to replace or split.

What does the Regex tester do?

  • Every match highlighted, empty matches too
  • Numbered and named groups for each match
  • Replace with $1, $<name> and $&
  • Split on the pattern
  • Flags g i m s u v y and d
  • Patterns that run forever are stopped after 3 seconds

Frequently asked questions

Which regex flavour is this?
JavaScript's, as your browser runs it: lookbehind, named groups, \p{L} Unicode classes with the u flag and set notation with v. PCRE-only features like possessive quantifiers aren't there.
