WebSocket and SSE Tester

Real-time APIs are hard to read in DevTools: frames scroll past as one-line JSON and every price tick looks the same. Connect here to see each frame with its time and size, keep only the frames a jq filter matches, and pick one to read it whole, with the fields that changed since the frame before.

How do I use the Live stream?

  1. Type a wss:// address for a WebSocket, or an https:// address for a Server-Sent Events stream, and press Connect.
  2. Type a jq filter, such as select(.type == "trade"), to keep only the frames you need; the list updates as you type.
  3. Pick a frame to read it whole and see what changed, send messages on a WebSocket, or download every frame as JSON Lines.

What does the Live stream do?

  • WebSocket (ws://, wss://) with subprotocols, text and binary frames
  • Server-Sent Events with any event name, ids, Last-Event-ID on reconnect and a custom header such as Authorization
  • Live jq filter on every JSON frame
  • Changes since the previous frame of the same event: added, removed and changed fields
  • Binary frames as text, hex or MessagePack
  • Pause, Clear, and Download as JSON Lines

Frequently asked questions

Does Bracely see my stream?
No. Your browser connects to the server directly; the frames stay in this tab and are dropped when you close it. Nothing is recorded, uploaded or added to history, and the header you type is never saved.
Why doesn't it connect?
Browsers check the origin: a WebSocket server may refuse pages from other sites, and an SSE endpoint needs CORS headers that allow this page. On https, plain ws:// and http:// addresses are blocked except localhost.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Bracely runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you paste or open leaves your device.
