HAR to OpenAPI
No spec for the API you're working with? Record it: save the Network panel as a HAR while you use the app, and turn the API calls into an OpenAPI document with every path, parameter and body schema.
How do I use the HAR to OpenAPI?
- In DevTools, open Network, use the app, then right-click and Save all as HAR.
- Open the HAR here; Show: OpenAPI document is picked for you.
- Read or save the YAML or JSON, and check the schemas against what you know.
What does the HAR to OpenAPI do?
- One operation per method and path
- Ids in addresses (numbers, UUIDs, ORD-20419) become path parameters
- Query parameters, required when every call had them
- Schemas merged from every body seen, nested objects as components
- Every status seen, with error bodies as Error
- Bearer and basic auth as security schemes
Frequently asked questions
- Is the HAR uploaded?
- No. It's read in your browser. HAR files hold cookies and tokens, so that matters.
- How good is the result?
- It describes only what was recorded: fields that were never sent aren't there, and every value seen is an example. Use it as a first draft.
